NEBO Built By Boaters for Boaters
The NEBO App was born out of a strong passion for boating and a commitment to addressing the challenges that often face those on the water. Recognizing the complexities and uncertainties that can arise while boating—especially in unfamiliar areas—the creators aimed to develop an application that would enhance communication, simplify navigational assistance, and ultimately improve safety on the water. Since its launch, the NEBO App has evolved based on user feedback and advancements in technology, continually updating to serve its community of users better. As a result, it has established itself as a trusted resource in the boating world.
Features of the NEBO App
1. Real-Time Location Tracking
One of the standout features of the NEBO App is its real-time location-tracking capability. By utilizing advanced GPS and Cellular technology, the app shows your boat’s exact position on interactive and user-friendly maps. This invaluable tool enables boaters to share their position with family and friends in real-time while boating.
When viewing the NEBO screen, you see a map that shows the number of NEBO-tracked boats in the area. You can move around the map to check out other areas and see how much traffic is around. You can see specific boats and their details by zooming in on an area. (Boaters can choose to share, hide (the boat is visible the name and details are hidden), or hide in the NEBO app.
Clicking on a specific boat shows its profile, including the owners’ names, current position, and details about the boat. If the boat is underway, you will see its current speed.
The app provides a quick way to send a message through the NEBO Chat function. It’s a great way to connect with new boaters for docktails, or to get information about a specific marina or anchorage.
Using the zoomed-out map feature is an excellent way to see which marinas or anchorages other boaters are staying at,, which can be helpful when selecting a place to stay. During our Great Loop trips, we used this feature to see how may boats were waiting at the Locks ahead of us to gauge traffic.
Through the NEBO App, you can generate a web link and share it with friends and family so that they can track your location in real-time! We post our NEBO location on our personal blog, which lets our friends see where we are currently. You can see our current position by checking out Our NEBO Map.
2. Journey Logging
The journey log feature automatically records your routes, speeds, and distances traveled, providing a detailed account of your boating excursions. Users can easily revisit past trips, analyze performance stats, and monitor their boating habits over time, making it convenient for planning future outings.
The Voyage details screen lets you see logs of your current and past trips in the App. Each Voyage shows a Map of your route color-coded by speed, trip statistics, weather, and key waypoints on your journey. It also displays your miles traveled, average and maximum speeds, as well as time under way so that you can analyze your fuel burn statistics. NEBO will even email you a PDF version when you end your journey.
At the end of each month, NEBO will email you a copy of your monthly trip statistics, which is very useful for your trip log. We print and store each trip along with the monthly summary in our ship’s logbook. This information is helpful when trying to recall our locations and the conditions we experienced while writing our blog!
3. Custom Waypoints
Planning your trips is easier with customizable waypoints. The app lets you mark important locations on the map—like your favorite fishing spots or mooring areas—allowing you to plot predetermined routes effortlessly. This guidance reduces the risk of getting off course and improves overall navigation efficiency.
4. Emergency Features

In case of distress, users can send out emergency signals complete with their exact GPS coordinates to pre-defined contacts and local authorities, ensuring that help is just a click away. If a NEBO user is in your circle and chooses to share it, you can review their day’s journey right from the app. In NEBO, you can search for another boat by Vessel Name or Owner Name. You can also “Friend” boats, so that they show up in your friends list for easy tracking and contact.
Through the NEBO App, you can send and receive messages, see the location of other boaters in your group. The chat function is a great way to stay in touch with old friends, and to reach out to new boaters in your area.
As Harbor Hosts, we monitor boats as they travel up and down the ICW toward Palm Coast, FL (our home port). Brenda will whip up a batch of her Docking Cookies, and we will greet them if they stop at our local marina.
The NEBO App also lets you mark hazards or favorite spots along your route, and share them with the NEBO community.

I mounted our NEBO Link under our flybridge. It works great and I have not had any issue with GPS or Cellular signals going through the fiberglass. One other benefit of NEBO Link is that in some areas, cellular service is not available. NEBO Link will store your trip data until it re-establishes communication, then upload the data.
